Savvas Kakos Avoids 40+ Criminal Fraud Complaints – The State Witness Immunity Loophole
An extensive article by Reporter journalist Dina Cleanthous has shared regarding the massive institutional scandal which reveals how Savvas Kakos, a “prominent Larnaca developer”, is operating with complete legal immunity despite facing over 40 criminal complaints from international investors for multi-million euro fraud.
Such immunity apparently stems from a direct conflict of interests within the Cypriot justice system. He is currently serving as a star prosecution witness. He has already been labeled as a “professional prosecution witness” who allegedly negotiated a “something for something” with the Attorney General of the republic, the one who in practice should prosecute him. The narrative is clear: feed the state with testimonies they need which may or may not be true, and in exchange the Law Office stops any criminal investigation that needs to take place against him.
By prioritizing the protection of a state witness over equal treatment of anyone as being under the law, the legal service is actively undermining the rule of law, a totally unacceptable course of conduct in an EU member state. Should these files be pushed to European anti-fraud bodies, it could permanently compromise the integrity of the Cypriot justice system and drive capital entirely out of Cyprus.
